Hamilton Princess & Beach Club

The Grand Dame of Bermuda

What it is

A storied Bermuda resort with a regal history and 21st century makeover.

What it isn't

A small boutique property, though the Bermuda shorts-clad staff will go to great lengths to devise a bespoke experience.

What we think

Bermuda’s famous pink sands match the rosy hue of the Hamilton, originally built in 1885 after its harbor-front locale caught the eye of Princess Louise, daughter of Queen Victoria. While its halls are full of history—Mark Twain was a fixture here, as was Ian Fleming—it’s also on the heels of a $100 million renovation in which all 400 rooms were updated (the property’s 43 suites were redesigned by Botelho Wood Architects) and three restaurants (including one by Marcus Samuelsson), an Exhale spa and 60-boat marina were added. Thanks to artwork by Andy Warhol, Banksy and Tom Wassermann, the stark lobby feels like grand gallery, though it’s the hotel’s quieter moments—slipping into a hammock by the oceanfront infinity pool, looking out to billowing sails on the harbor from the shore’s pink sands—that keeps guests coming back.

You're here because

You want a big resort with a glamorous old-world setting that’s full of top-notch amenities such as a slew of restaurants, a 5,400-square foot spa and a marina and motorized water sports.

The Moment

Admiring the lobby’s world-class artwork with a Dark & Stormy in hand. The resort’s version of the classic Bermuda cocktail is made with resort’s own Gosling’s Princess Rum.
