Sea Island, Georgia
The Lodge at Sea Island
To the Manor Reborn
What it is
A 58-room bastion of luxury with a seafront pool and 18-hole putting green, plus all the thrills of iconic Sea Island proper.
What it isn't
Devoid of history. You’ll be able to spot the former antebellum plantation’s ruins on the grounds, where live oak trees dripping with spanish moss stud the grass.
What we think
The beauty is in the details, and the people behind Sea Island must know that down to their toes. Rarely is an experience this well-planned, from the intricate architectural touches that call to mind a modern Hearst Castle (exposed wood rafters; soaking tubs tailor-made for lingering in the marble baths) to the smile-inducing perks (a bagpiper trilling at twilight; s’mores o’clock every evening around the fire). Although the property was inspired by British estates, we find it’s thoroughly the best of its own region, including a steakhouse among its five on-site restaurants that services dry aged USDA Prime beef.
You're here because
Each room has 24/7 butler service—you never know when you’ll need something at 2 a.m. And you’re besotted with the down bedding and Molton Brown products in the bath.
The Moment
There are spas, and then there is the 65,000-square-foot spa at Sea Island. Sitting back in your plush robe alongside a gurgling koi pond, you can think of no better way to relax after a pilates and cryotherapy session. That is, until, your therapist finds you for your Balinese massage, facial and peel. You almost don’t recognize yourself.
