Munich, Germany
Louis Hotel
Serene Hideaway
What it is
An intimate and ineffably stylish 72-room hotel with a lauded steakhouse and rooftop cocktail bar.
What it isn't
Limited. The restaurant reportedly also has one of the best vegan menus in the city.
What we think
Munich is among Europe’s most ornate cities, architecturally speaking. Which is why it’s so nice, after a day of soaking in eye candy on the cobblestoned streets, to retreat to a calm, white-on-white interior. That’s just what Louis has captured in its guest rooms. The 193-square-foot Courtyard Single is ready to host one in style, with interiors that are simple enough to suit a monk, yet made for the luxury traveler, with heated limestone floors in the bathroom and an iPod docking station. We found it worth upgrading to a Market View Deluxe for a prime panorama over the fairytale streets, plus roomier digs (nearly 500 square feet), a sitting area with plush kilim carpets underfoot, and a French balcony.
You're here because
You love to toast your vacays with champagne, and the Louis Sparkling Bar offers tipples bottled everywhere from California to Georgia (the country, not the state).
The Moment
Tucked in your plump booth in the LOUIS Grillroom, you take a sip of your lavender flower-dusted gin martini, and instantly feel your shoulders lowering. The only thing better than bottomless cocktails? Knowing you’re within a few steps of your downy bed.

Location
Set directly across the street from Munich’s best farmer’s market (since 1807, no less), a mere three blocks walk from Marienplatz, the de facto living room of the city since 1158.
