The St. Regis Istanbul

Istanbul’s Art-Deco past, channeled and distilled.

What it is

On a prime corner in a hot neighborhood, it’s hip, stylish and thoughtfully curated.

What it isn't

One of the opulent palaces from the city’s days as the Ottoman capital.

What we think

The St. Regis Istanbul opened in the Spring of 2015 in the center of Nişantaşı, the city’s fashion and cultural neighborhood. Turkish architect Emre Arolat constructed a modern and sleek building, one that paid homage to the splendor of the neighborhood’s storied Art Deco period without coming off as a kitschy throwback. The lobby, for example, is a sweeping space that proudly holds a massive, polished wood and glass curiosity cabinet; albeit a modernized version. In place of silver trays and tchotchkes, this one has glossy Assouline books and curated glass works. Upstairs, the 118 guestrooms and 18 suites are elegant and bereft of busy patterns or unnecessary embellishments. Instead they’re appointed with custom furnishings in a largely white, tan and chocolate palette. Floor to ceiling windows take up the entirety of the outside-facing wall, letting in views of the city and abundant sunshine. Up on the top floor, Wolfgang Puck’s team led the opening of Spago Istanbul, the restaurant’s first non-US outpost. It serves seasonally influenced, modern California farm-to-table fare with an excellent cocktail menu and wine list. Its wraparound terrace has become the latest hotspot in town; the location allows diners stunning views of the city and the Bosphorus off in the distance. For those looking for something a bit more local, Brasserie St. Regis is the ground floor restaurant where guests can find Turkish fare that’s been executed with French flare.

You're here because

The St. Regis is renowned for its white glove service and dedication to aligning its properties with local flavor. Together, the two sensibilities create the best option for something luxe and fashionably local.

The Moment

Paying tribute to the St. Regis tradition, the bartender mixes up this property’s take on the Bloody Mary. The famous cocktail, invented by the bartender at the St. Regis New York, is recreated in every location, but modified to showcase local character. Here in the lobby’s Petit “O” Bar, you hold the deep purple drink up and inquire about the local twist. Raki, thyme and beets are some of the perfectly complimenting components of the Misty Mary.

Location

On the narrow, Art Nouveau and Art Deco-lined streets of the trendy Nişantaşı district, the St. Regis is on the pointed corner where Mim Kemal Oke and Abdi İpekçi streets meet. The western facade overlooks the sloping gardens of Maçka Parkı while the eastern side faces international and Turkish high-end boutiques. The hotel is technically just over half an hour to the international airport, but add extra time to accommodate for the ever present traffic.
