Siem Reap, Cambodia
Zannier Hotels Phum Baitang
What it is
An unforgettable collection of 45 luxe villas on stilts with four airy bars and restaurants, an immaculate infinity pool, and a spa “temple” that’s truly transcendent.
What it isn't
Just for grownups. Littles find much to love here, too, thanks to a Kids Club devoted to delighting them (think: cooking classes, rice-harvesting, and an Angkor discovery tour).
What we think
Zannier has wisely combined the best of Siem Reap (including architecture inspired by indigenous Khmer wood homes) with all the perks that today’s glitterati demand, including private terraces and—phew!—air conditioning. But we recommend booking one of the twenty, 775-square-foot Pool Villas that are equipped with their own dazzling plunge pools flanked by day beds. Either way, expect amenities galore, including a curated mini bar, LCD flatscreen TV with satellite channels, hidden sound system, and an electric kettle and Nespresso coffee machine—ideal for sipping your morning cuppa on the terrace while listening to Hainan Blue Flycatchers and Forest Wagtails sing.
You're here because
The hotel has a fleet of loaner bikes so you can zip around the streets like a local, plus unexpected indulgences for guests—such as Cambodian cooking classes where you’ll cull herbs from the on-site gardens and make rice grown in the adjacent paddies.
The menu at one of the hotel’s restaurants, Bay Phsar, promised “an evening of culinary showmanship”—and they were true to their word. From your perch in a rattan chair, everything is exquisite, from the shrimp spring rolls with chili dipping sauce to the minced pork crisp pancakes served with Khmer herbs. How do you say “bliss” in Khmer?
