Viceroy Los Cabos

Los Cabos, Mexico

What it is

A futuristic architectural gem among Cabo’s luxe resorts.

What it isn't

On another planet, location-wise. It looks otherworldly but is walking distance to town.

What we think

Resembling a cross between a Bond villain’s hideout and a set for the latest Star Trek movie, Viceroy Los Cabos (formerly Mar Adentro) is a captivating maze of concrete, water, and elegantly drawn lines. The complex, designed by Mexican architect Miguel Angel Aragonés, is comprised of several white, cube-shaped buildings connected by paths that criss-cross a series of dark-bottomed pools. If it seems like there would be a cold vibe with all the concrete, think again. Along with the warm Pacific breezes, Viceroy has brought life to the property. There are just over a hundred rooms—all minimalist, spacious and white, with Poliform furniture and views of either the ocean or the architecture. A modern Mexican restaurant, Casero, sits under a striking bird’s nest–like dome made of recycled twigs. There’s also an immersive spa, beach club, kid’s club and oval-shaped swimming pool.

You're here because

You’re a design fanatic who enjoys staying at a beach resort whose architecture is more eye-catching than the beach itself.

The Moment

A warm sea-breeze surrounds you as you tuck into a late lunch of seafood ceviche under the shade of Casero restaurant’s lattice shell, the filtered sunlight leaving a web-like print on the floor beneath your feet.

In the Hotel Zone outside San José del Cabo, 20 minutes from the airport.
