What it isn't
Think of this property as more of a collection of apartments than a hotel. While the superb staff will accommodate nearly any request, this isn’t a traditional property in the sense that there’s a social lobby and separate gym, spa or pool.
What we think
When Fendi revealed its restored 17th century palace—best known as the Palazzo Fendi—in central Rome, both fashionistas and travelers took interest. Seven apartment-style suites are stacked above the 10,800-square-foot boutique, each of which was designed by architect Marco Costanzi and showcases Fendi Casa furniture and home décor, as well as accent pieces such as Wegner chairs and brass chandeliers by Lindsey Adelman. Throughout rooms, Fendi used many of the same materials and concepts—geometric furnishings, framed panels of fur—that inspires their work on the runway. You’ll also find original platinum prints of Rome by Karl Lagerfeld (a friend of Silvia Venturini Fendi), and dramatic use of stone such as red Levanto marble showers. Windows overlook the Trinità dei Monti Church and shop-lined Via dell’Arancio, among other central Roman sites. Guests get priority reservations at Zuma, the rooftop restaurant, as well as a private tour of the flagship below.

The Moment
Arrival: Slipping into the almost-secret Via della Fontanella di Borghese side door, away from the crowds at the boutique’s entrance, and approaching the dramatic monolithic reception desk, made of three types of marble. After receiving your room key—slipped into a complimentary Fendi Selleria card holder—you’re whisked to your ultra-private abode.
