ALiLA Ventana Big Sur
Big Sur Bliss
What it is
Seventies-era R&R, updated to impress today’s Gwyneth Paltrow types.
What it isn't
Hurried. Don’t come for anything but unwinding.
What we think
Guided hikes through the redwood forest, mandala coloring for couples (!), and morning yoga and tai chi are all standard-issue activities here; Honestly, we breathed a calm contented sigh just writing that. And though glamping is now an option since the resort was revamped in fall 2017 (nightly turndown in the upscale tents comes with s’mores), Alila Ventana Big Sur is every bit for Grace as it is for Frankie—sun-bleached cedar-walled guest rooms are stocked with ocean views, artisanal minibars and, often, fireplaces. The resort maintains 104-degree onsen-style Japanese baths and two alfresco lap pools, one of which is clothing-optional (don’t tell Grace).
You're here because
Plenty of luxury hotels claim to be “green,” but which among them go so far as to recycle light bulbs and house staff on-site to reduce carbon emissions? This one.
The Moment
No spa has ever cared so much for your inner beauty as Ventana’s, where, after a wild sage and pine massage, Sofanya paints your essence, illuminating your animal spirit guide (so much more than a meme).
