Anguilla
Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel
Anguilla’s time-tested favorite
What it is
An idyllic, discreetly celeb-dotted Caribbean resort.
What it isn't
A rambunctious party scene.
What we think
Widely known as the hotel that set the luxe yet laid-back tone for Anguilla, Belmond Cap Juluca is one of the Caribbean’s iconic romantic hideaways. Fifteen bright white Moorish villas sprawl along the mile-long curve of Maundays Bay—combined with the white sand and oh-so-clear water, the place could easily be mistaken for a mirage. All of the 69 rooms, suites and villas are huge and right on the sand; their arched windows face the mountainous profile of St. Maarten, seven miles across the turquoise channel. A multi-million dollar renovation recently refreshed the interiors, breathing new life into both the batik textiles and the rattan furnishings and also making the pristine white paint even brighter. Guests here are welcome to customize everything down to their robe preference; the resort takes care of its guests with a friendliness and anticipatory seamlessness that explains the loyal returnees. A rate-included breakfast is set up daily on their private balconies, movies with drinks and popcorn are shown free of charge in the evenings, sorbet is handed out by the pool and afternoon tea and scones are given out in the library. The restaurants, much-loved Pimms and Moroccan-themed Spice, serve up “garden-to-table” fare and cheerfully point out the property’s abundant herb and spice gardens.
You're here because
You want something supremely luxe and exclusive, but with no trace of pretentiousness.
The Moment
Waiting for your partner to finish getting ready for dinner at Pimm’s, you lean back on the sofa and take a sip from the cocktail the butler just dropped off. Walking out onto your suites stone patio, you feel the gentle trade winds and stare in wonder at how the moon has turned the white sand a brilliant silver.
