Tulum, Mexico
Casa Chablé, Sian Ka'an Reserve
Thatched-roof Paradise
What it is
An intimate, sustainably-minded beach resort on a particularly remote stretch of beach in Sian Ka’an biosphere.
What it isn't
Close to any urban hotspots. But you didn’t trek to Instagram-perfect heaven to bounce in the club, did you? No.
What we think
When you’re booking a villa at Casa Chablé, your choices are literally simple: there’s Ka’ak (fire), Ha (water), Lu’um (earth), and more of that earthy ilk. It’s no wonder at this eco-friendly resort, where luxury is matched by peerless sustainability programs—including 48 solar panels and a wind turbine that keep energy flowing like the waves; underground cisterns and on-site filtering for agua; furniture hand-crafted by regional artists; and building materials culled from the property—including the roof thatching. Of course, you’d never know all this in your ultra-pampering room; each is fitted with flat-screen smart TVs, lighting-fast WiFi and (hallelujah) air conditioning.
You're here because
Not only does it feel like your own private island, but it’s ripe for exploration—and they’ve done all the organizational work for you. Want to fly-fish for barracuda in a saltwater lagoon? Scuba dive alongside dolphins and bull sharks? Or explore a cenote (underground river cave)? Your wish is their command.
The Moment
Typically eco-resorts are lacking in the edible luxuries department. Not so Mukan, which pulls out all the delectable stops for globetrotting guests. Sitting here tonight under leafy palms as the sun sets, your eyes widen at your entree: grilled fish tikin xik with pickled onions and black beans, and homemade tortillas. It’s going to be nearly impossible to save room for churros and chocolate—but save room you must. It’s Vacation with a capital V.
Restaurants & Bars
Casa Chablé Restaurant - Casa Chablé’s menus were conceived by renowned chef Jorge Vallejo, the mastermind behind the award-winning restaurant Quintonil in Mexico City. He oversees dishes crafted to order showcasing local and regional delicacies tailored to guest preferences and made with locally caught fish and produce from the property’s organic gardens.
Location
As remote as it gets: the resort is a 2.5 hour drive from Cancun International Airport, then another 50 minute ferry ride. (And don’t worry, hotel staff will happily arrange your transfer).
