What it is

A glamping retreat with 15 posh “tents;” an airy dining pavilion, cocktail bar and wine cellar; spa lofted in the treetops; and unforgettable bucket list experiences.

What it isn't

Self-serving. The hotel has rescued and adopted more than 20 elephants from urban squalor so they can live their best lives here in the pristine jungle (and yes, guests have many options for interacting with them—including bath time).

What we think

This is Glamping with a capital G: the tents at Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle are nothing your grandfather would recognize—all at 581 square feet and fitted with outdoor showers or deep soaking tubs, and (yes) private bathrooms. We particularly love the Mekong Tents, which look like they were designed for a Thai remake of Out of Africa, with their carved wood furniture, hanging lanterns, mosquito netted bed and panorama over the verdant forests of Myanmar and rushing Ruak River below. Bamboo Tents, too, are exquisite—with their hand carved teak doorways and hillside perch complete with a terrace that feels at one with the upper forest canopy.

The resort only allows children 10 and up, and you need a break from little ones on the lam.

The Moment

You’re a bit sore from your morning of frolicking with the elephants, and thankfully, the spa awaits with the fix: a bamboo stick massage and lavender milk bath in a tub overlooking the jungle.
