Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek

Texas Legend

What it is

An over-the-top 1920s estate inspired by 16th-century Italy, reborn anew as one of the most glamorous hotels in the country.

What it isn't

Lacking a backstory. Everyone from Tennesee Williams to Franklin D. Roosevelt have stayed here.

What we think

Everyone who thinks things are bigger in Texas aren’t wrong, but what they don’t mention is that they’re also, often, better. Take this ultra-luxe property, where each guest is treated like Beyonce—perhaps the state’s most famous export—herself. In the 142 rooms, you’ll discover an attention to detail that’s all too rare, including damask-covered walls, bed linens by Rivolta Carmignani, and mahogany millwork. (Bonus: even starter rooms are gynormous, beginning at 450-square-feet). It’s worth splurging on a Manor or Estate Suite for a foyer, powder room and private balcony, especially because they’re roomier than most at 900-square-feet. Stop by the intimate spa for a deep tissue massage, as requisite post-shopping spree as it is post-workout.

You're here because

You have a thing for immaculate al fresco pools; this one is heated year-round, and the ideal place to lounge with a Texas Sunset cocktail and green gazpacho as dusk falls over the landscape.

The Moment

Cuddled under a blanket by the flickering fireplace at the aptly-named al fresco restaurant Terrace, you find it’s high time for margarita. This one, the Texas Margarita—with Milagro tequila, jalapeno agave, tajin and Cointreau—has you prepared to quit your life so you can tip it back here every Friday night. The fact that the accompanying warm churros with dulce de leche sauce are equally delightful is just a bonus.
