What we think

We’ll say it: Vegas does not have a reputation for ultra-luxury hotels. That changed when Waldorf Astoria opened, and not a moment too soon. Here, massive (500-square-foot) guest rooms are tailor-made for sophisticates, with plush velvet upholstery, frosted glass separating the bathroom and floor to ceiling windows that overlook the lights of Vegas. (Ask for a room on the 22nd floor for the best possible view). We’d bet, though, that you won’t spend too much time there—not when hotel restaurants include the 23rd floor Twist by Pierre Gagnaire (a chef who won Michelin stars for his Paris outpost, and will undoubtedly garner them here—his only restaurant in the U.S.). Take it from us: don’t miss the saffron risotto with roasted peach and cashews.

The Moment

You hate to admit this, but you’ve had enough of Sin City—at least for the day. So you head to the restorative spa, where a hammam, ice fountain, steam rooms and vitality pool await. You book yourself the aptly named High Rollers Relief—a 90 minute exfoliation and volcanic hot stone massage—then call yourself lucky, indeed.
