Cape Town, South Africa
What it is
An ultra-luxe 120-room respite on a private quay of the V&A Waterfront where yachts bob, with serene rooms and an exquisite spa.
What it isn't
Nickel and dime-ing you. Comped services include everything from gingerbread decorating for tots and chauffeur transfers within a 6-mile radius.
What we think
You won’t feel like you’re anywhere but South Africa here, which is exactly why we love it. Rooms are decorated with Cape Dutch antiques, ship manifests and even botanicals that represent the local flora; ask for a Table Mountain Luxury Room for a Juliet balcony overlooking—yes—1,086-meter high Table Mountain National Park, among the new seven wonders of the world. Among the welcoming touches that would wow even celeb guests: freshly placed bouquets; an iPod docking station; marble bathrooms with a separate shower and bath; and both a reading and dressing area (did we mention the place is nearly 500 square feet?).
You're here because
The spa embraces the best of old and new technology. Translation: you can use products culled from the Kalahari Desert, or have 95% pure oxygen blasted into your skin with an Oxygen Energy Applicator. Breathe deep.
You feel a bit like you’re sitting in a jewel box during this particular Afternoon Tea. The room is lined in all manner of silvery upholstery and gilding, lending a particularly sovereign air to the proceedings. This being South Africa, you sip a locally plucked blend of Highland Rooibos...then dig in to your warm scone with lemon curd and strawberry jam. Would it be bush league to come back every day?
