Four Seasons Hotel Milano

Heavenly Hideaway

What it is

A former 15th century convent revamped into an ultra-chic stay, with a modernist spa, 14-meter lap pool, Rossano Ferreti salon, and four exquisite bars and restaurants.

What it isn't

Overly modernized. The architects kept the most beautiful ancient aspects of the structure (such as the 19th century vaulted brick ceilings over the pool); you’re in a city that was founded in 590 BC, and it should feel that way.

What we think

The nuns that once lived their humble lives in this storied building would be gobsmacked at its delicious, almost sinful luxury today. Even the 312 square foot Superior Rooms would satisfy a Pope, with their Fortuny upholstery fabrics, sycamore- burl cabinetry, cloud soft Italian bed linens, marble lined bathrooms with heated marble floors, walk-in closet, plush robes and down pillows, and even a DVD and CD player for living large on those rare nights in. The 732 square foot Fashion Suite with Terrace is lovely, thanks to its leafy private terrace and spacious separate living room, but it’s truly worth splurging on the Penthouse Suite with Terrace: your private terrace is an entrancing Milanese wonderland of verdant trees and flickering candle lanterns overlooking the rooftops of the city. In short: it’s the exact place to feel like you’ve just “won” Milan fashion week.

You're here because

The spa—designed by Patricia Urquiola—is a jewel box favorite of the glitterati. No wonder, with their candle massages, Sicilian almond body scrubs, and cryo facials.

The Moment

From your plump leather banquette at Zelo, it’s easy to see why Executive Chef Fabrizio Borraccino is so beloved in Milan. After you indulge in the caviar tasting menu, the fried stuffed zucchini flowers and seared octopus are in order…and all divine, as the nuns that once lived here might say.
