Sina Brufani

Grandest Grande Dame

What it is

An 1884 icon with a pool under medieval vaults, 94 fanciful guest rooms, locavore restaurant, inventive cocktail bar, and storied history (Queen Elizabeth II was here).

What it isn't

Blah. Experiences on offer for guests here range from woodland truffle hunts with local pros and their truffle-sniffing dogs to tours of local chocolate laboratories.

What we think

Sina Brufani is legendary, yes, but it’s not resting on its many laurels. Even the “starter” guest room here, a 323 square foot Superior Room, is a storybook delight, often with cloister views out the arched windows, tasseled draperies, antique furniture, Carrara marble-lined bathrooms, parquet floors and plush carpets underfoot. We can’t get enough of the 560 square foot Suites, though, thanks to their silk tapestries, Italian marble bathrooms that feel like spas, with their whirlpool tubs, and separate living spaces ideal for hosting aperitivo hour. But you can’t make a bad choice, here: amenities in each room are pampering, including a minibar, satellite TV and individually controlled air conditioning, plus access to the Sina Wellness Club (“Turkish bath, anyone?”).

You're here because

You love staying where fame has slept, and Sina Brufani is exactly that: everyone from Queen Elizabeth II to the Dalai Lama to Bruce Springstine has checked in here.

The Moment

From your table by the flickering fire at Collins Restaurant, every bite tastes like an Italian heaven. The wild boar in apples was worth the trip to Perugia alone.
