Barcelona, Spain
W Barcelona
Stunning by the Sea
What it is
A 473-room architectural icon on the Barceloneta boardwalk, with a 26th floor rooftop bar and sceney pool.
What it isn't
In the heart of the Barcelona action. You’re set on a sea-facing jetty here; expect a beach vacay with a side of urbanity.
What we think
If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to sleep in a lighthouse, this captures the feeling—albeit in a modernist way that’s more Vegas va-va-voom than Maine sweaterland. Rooms at the W Barcelona were designed by Boffill Design to be as sleek as possible, with nine-foot floor-to-ceiling windows that peep out on the ocean and bleach-white walls that seem to double as light installations. But if you’re worried they’ll lack Spain’s trademark hospitality, don’t: each is also tricked out with pampering 350-thread-count linens, Nespresso machines, Bose Bluetooth speakers and even throw pillows that depict everyone from Guadi to Dali. How do you say “whimsical” in Spanish?
You're here because
The rooftop’s glass-like infinity pool looks like it’s one with the ocean beyond, yet it’s lined with see-and-be seen daybeds that could host an entire cast of The Real Housewives of Barcelona.
The Moment
Sitting with your toes in the Mediterranean sand at the Beach Club, DJ’s spinning into the sunset, you feel like you can’t possibly get any more chillaxed. And then your waiter hands you a cocktail made bespoke just for you by their resident mixologists. One sip, and you don’t just feel like you’ve achieved Peak Vacation. You feel seen.
