Marbella, Spain
Puente Romano Marbella
Andalusian everything
What it is
A resort masquerading as a whitewashed seaside village—so you’ll get the charms of the latter with the amenities of the former.
What it isn't
Undiscovered. This is a vacation hot spot for good reason.
What we think
On this stretch of Mediterranean coastline, which is chockablock with worthy hotels, this the ne plus ultra. There are Six Senses Spa treatment cabanas overlooking the ocean, clay tennis courts, and four (count ‘em, four!) pools. Local architect Melvin Villarroel designed the 264 rooms to have terraces overlooking the calming, leafy subtropical gardens; inside, they’re thoroughly Colonial—all gilded pineapples, brown furniture, tufts and tassels. The private 18-hole golf course is a twenty minute drive inland, but worth it; it was designed by Dave Thomas and overlooks the Rock of Gibraltar.
You're here because
You need a true unplug-from-everything vacation, and with the resort’s five restaurants (Dani Garcia earned two Michelin stars here) you don’t have to leave the property unless you feel like it.
The Moment
It’s hard not to look at what the chefs are concocting in Dani Garcia’s open kitchen, but you try—it would be like shaking a present. The first dish they languidly set before you: red prawn carpaccio with truffle honey, green apples, pine nuts and olive oil-cured cheese. Yes, it was worth the wait.
