St. Moritz, Switzerland
Carlton Hotel St. Moritz
Where the A-list goes to ski
What it is
An all-suite ski resort in the Southern Alps that’s as elegant as its St. Moritz surroundings.
What it isn't
A ski-in, ski-out location.
What we think
It’s hard to imagine a more quintessential place to stay in St. Moritz than the Carlton. Originally opened in 1913, the property went through a top-to-bottom renovation in 2007, bringing it up to 21st century standards without losing its old world elegance. The 60 suites by interior designer Carlo Rampazzi are individually decorated—the Chagall suite, for example, has walls painted with reproductions of the artist’s works—all of which include sitting areas, whimsically regal headboards and windows framed with sumptuous curtains. You may love the mountain’s Olympic runs, but you won’t mind heading back to the Carlton for its après ski scene: Suit up for dinner at Romanoff, which serves Swiss cuisine, or book a table at the Da Vittorio, helmed by Italian chefs who live in St. Moritz during ski season. Water therapies—an ice fountain, hydro-massage showers, a Finnish sauna and an indoor pool and hot tub—abound at the six-treatment room spa. The property can also arrange heli-skiing excursions, guided winter hikes and horse-drawn sleigh rides.
You're here because
The Carlton is the cornerstone of your ritzy Swiss ski holiday fantasy.
The Moment
After a day on the slopes, you head to the lobby’s sun terrace overlooking St. Moritz Lake and, beyond, Upper Engadin. Wrap yourself in fur and cashmere blankets while the waiter brings over a glass of bubbly along with delicate prosciutto-wrapped melon.
