Incline Village, Nevada
Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa & Casino
What it is
An alpine-inspired gem on gleaming North Lake Tahoe, with 422 plush rooms, a casino, seven restaurants, a heated al fresco pool and a tricked-out spa.
What it isn't
Poorly serviced. Guests can opt to be pampered with valet (or, if they prefer, self-parking); a gratis shuttle to zip them around Incline Village; and a team of concierges that can hook you up with everything from ski advice to restaurant reservations. Did we mention their Adventure Specialists, who know all the best trails?
What we think
It’s not easy to mix the best elements of a cozy mountain lodge with a sleek modernist look, but Hyatt’s done it. Guest rooms here subtly nod to their forested surroundings: even the “starter” rooms (a whopping 400 square feet or more) feature blonde wood headboards and window seats or private balconies that peep out on the trees. If you’re traveling en famille, we recommend booking one of the cottages, which will feel like your own alpine cabin; Lake Front Cottage Lower has a stone gas fireplace, a fully outfitted kitchenette, patio overlooking the water, and games and puzzles galore for après ski chill nights in. While you’re here, don’t miss having at least one meal set to live music at Lone Eagle Grille, which almost feels like it’s floating on the water—except for the flickering fire pits fronting the lake. On the dinner menu: seared sea scallops with braised pork belly; a cabernet braised Angus short rib; and Elk Strip Loin with blueberry gastrique.
You're here because
Their Stillwater Spa & Salon is set on a private beach, with 16 treatment rooms (including one with a fireplace and another with an infinity tub). On the high-tech treatment list? Oxygen infusion facials and even floatation therapy.
The afternoon air at Tahoe is perfect—crisp, warm, and faintly scented by evergreen trees. Beach, their restaurant on the sand, is the perfect place to take it in from a shaded picnic table. Today you’re living it up: with their braised short rib grilled cheese sandwich and Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia. It’s like summer camp, only a billion times better.
