Torres del Paine National Park, Patagonia
explora Patagonia
Wow in the Wild
What it is
A magical minimalist stay fronting jagged mountain peaks with a blissful spa complete with a heated outdoor pool, horse stables, and curated bucket list adventures.
What it isn't
Hangry. One of Latin America’s finest chefs, Pablo Jesús Rivero, designed the menu, which uses the best local ingredients and often cooked the way a gaucho would—by fire.
What we think
Explora Patagonia instantly shot to the top of the glitterati’s “must-stay” list when it opened more than two decades ago, and it’s every bit as coveted today, if not more so. The hotel has captured what luxury truly means: jaw-dropping, craggy alpine scenery out every window combined with blissful pampering, such as jacuzzi’s bubbling astride the Paine River. Guest rooms are serene, with blonde wood details, jetted bathtubs (ideal after a day in the saddle), and individually controlled heat and AC; many have panoramas over the rushing Salto Chico waterfall. Room sizes begin at 300 square feet; if you need even more room to sprawl, we love the 450 square foot Suite Exploradores for their larger sitting areas.
You're here because
You’ve got equestrian life in your bones, and their horses are pros at traversing this postcard-worthy landscape in style—fording the Serrano River and under the snow-dusted Paine massif.
The Moment
You hiked nearly 15 miles today, past turquoise lagoons and up under granite rock formations unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. And this spa is your reward: a place to steep while peering out on the literal postcard you climbed, step by step.
