Mougins, France
Le Mas Candille
Blissful French elegance on the French Riviera
What it is
A newly revamped 18th century manor on eight verdant acres with a Michelin-starred restaurant, infinity pool overlooking olive groves, zen garden and spa.
What it isn't
Dedicated to welcoming screaming, spiraling toddlers. Well-behaved kiddos are welcome at the family pool and early dinners; the hotel can arrange babysitters for parents yearning for a much-needed date night.
What we think
Everyone from Pablo Picasso to Man Ray once lived in Mougin, which tells you something about how visually stunning this hilltop medieval village is. Even for Provence, arguably one of the most head-turning regions on earth, Mougins is eye candy—a place where storybook streets wend, croissant-like, around a hill tucked between Nice and Cannes in the Côte d'Azur. While details of the hotel’s extravagant renovation were not available as of press time, it will no doubt retain both its history (soaring arched windows and terra cotta roofs) as well as its charm (guest rooms adorned in everything from French country chintz to Art Deco). Ask for a room in the original 18th century home; many have terraces fringed by fragrant jasmine.
You're here because
The Michelin-starred restaurant has long been on your list for its only-in-Provence dishes, such as red mullet crusted with breadcrumbs topped with bacon and dwarf peas in a red wine jus.
The Moment
From the second you drove through the gates and up Le Mas Candille’s long cinematic drive, you knew you were in for something special. But tonight, taking in the sunset from the infinity pool, you realize it’s not just special. It’s heaven on earth.
