What it isn't

Just for grown ups. The Kio House of Kids program gives 4 to 14 year olds a retreat of their own, complete with Montessori and Waldorf-inspired exploits like upcycling and gardening.

What we think

The word Sardinia alone conjures vacation bliss. And 7Pines does it right, with their garden-dotted grounds and lagoon-shaped pools. Guest rooms take their design cues from the world beyond their walls, with a Mediterranean color palette of blonde woods, cloud grays, whites and turquoise blues. Each one has its own terrace (many surrounded by fragrant juniper trees); book the Sea View rooms for a panorama of the Sardinia surf. One of our favorite options? The Rooftop Suite, which has its own rooftop terrace complete with daybeds and an outdoor sofa ideal for sipping the local Vermentino white wines as the sun sets.
