Santo Mauro, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid
An Autograph Collection Hotel
What it is
The 19th century former home of a Duke—with 51 fairytale guest rooms, three dazzling restaurants and palatial architectural details.
What it isn't
Poorly read. The locally beloved restaurant is tucked within the Duke’s storybook library, complete with marble fireplaces and soaring bookshelves stocked to the rafters.
What we think
The Spanish royal family would feel right at home in this jaw dropping respite, built for the Duke of Santo Mauro and still awash in French neoclassical charm—from its manicured courtyard gardens to its arched windows painted a cerulean blue. Even the most basic guest room option here is anything but “basic”—you can expect a tufted headboard, abundant window dressings, a highly curated minibar with local wines and snacks, turndown with local chocolates, and treats made by La Pajarita—making candy here since 1852. We particularly love the Luxury Suites for their tented rooms adorned in one pattern, from the headboard to the bedskirt to the draperies; the fact that they have marble-lined bathrooms and butler service is just a bonus.
You're here because
The Beckham’s have reportedly stayed here, and after watching their Netflix documentary, you’re ready to live it up Beckham-style.
The Moment
Bellied up to the hotel’s cocktail bar, La Cocteleria Del Santo, you’re feeling a bit like you own the night. Is it your flower-topped frothy cocktail (designed just for you by the mixologist) or your lush garden view? Either way, you never want it to end.
Restaurants & Bars
La Biblioteca Restaurant - Mediterranean cuisine
The Santo Mauro Gardens - Tasting of the formal and delicate menu or the daring
The Gin Bar - Preparation of cocktails or taste dainty snacks designed to pair your drink
Location
In central Madrid’s Chamberi district, five blocks walk from Sweet Space—an edible modern art museum that feels more like it was made for the TikTok generation (yes, there’s a Wonka-worthy candy forest).
