Thompson Houston
New and Now
What it is
A sleek new 36-story tower with 172 rooms, one of the largest pool decks in town, plus four buzzing restaurants (including a throwback supper club) and a sumptuous spa.
What it isn't
Just for humans. Pets are welcomed here; there’s even a dog park just a short sashay away.
What we think
In a state where everything is bigger, as the saying goes, why not opt one of the tip-top hotels around…literally? Thompson went big on more than their gleaming tower, too: the herringbone wood floored guest rooms are stocked with luxe touches, including Sferra bed linens, Tivoli speakers, curated mini bars of regional fare and tipples, D.S. & Durga bath amenities, and custom furniture that looks torn from the pages of Elle Decor. Floor plans begin at a whopping 400 square feet; we think it’s worth splurging on a 1 Bedroom Bayou Park Suite for its 800 square foot expanse, including a prime panorama over Buffalo Bayou Park from the floor to ceiling windows. While you’re here, be sure to stop in at their brasserie for cocktails; it’s Paris meets Texas, in all the best ways.
You're here because
Thompson’s amenity fee includes bottomless perks, ranging from loaner bike rentals to a BMW electric car service within three miles of the hotel.
The Moment
You love little more than a view that stretches in all directions, and at the hotel’s seventh floor lounge, that’s exactly what you get. An immaculate vodka martini with a side of awe? Yes, please.
