Glenmere Mansion
Estate of Bliss
What it is
A 150-acre Hudson Valley estate with a 1911 Italianate manse, an 8,000 square foot spa and hammam, four exquisite restaurants, outdoor pool and boundless activities.
What it isn't
Lording over its own golf course. But who needs one, with two har-tru tennis courts and bocce courts and championship croquet on the premises?
What we think
When real estate tycoon Robert Goelet wanted to erect a show pony for himself amid the sprawling hills of the Hudson Valley, he went for the best: a Tuscan-inspired villa with 35 rooms, marble porticoes, and terraces overlooking the verdant grounds. It was perfect, and remains perfect today—as guests come from across the globe to soak up the Gilded Age vibes. Each of the 15 rooms is as luxurious as they come and ready to pamper, with sumptuous touches such as heated marble floors, DVD players and iPod docking stations, Italian bed linens, curated art, and even working wood fireplaces in most rooms. The double story Astor Suite might be our favorite, thanks to its two (count ‘em, two) fireplaces, grand living spaces and proud perch overlooking the fountain gurgling in the formal motor court.
You're here because
Glenmere has a partnership with Volvo that allows guests to test drive their SUVs free for hours at a time. Apple picking, anyone?
The Moment
In the soft glow of the firelight in Frogs End tavern, you feel a bit like a Vanderbilt—back when they had money. Tonight’s dinner is, fittingly, called Millionaire’s Meatloaf…and served with Boursin cheese potatoes and truffle-madeira sauce.
