Hounds Tooth Inn
What it is
A 13-room small town B&B with charm galore on its 3.5 acres, at the southern gates of Yosemite National Park.
What it isn't
Hands-off. Their concierge will assist with any behind-the-scenes Yosemite exploits you care to attempt (after all, they’re locals who know the Sierra Nevada mountains as well as Ansel Adams, and can direct you to the best places to spot bighorn sheep or ride horses under the canopy of sequoia trees).
What we think
You might think a Victorian-inspired hotel would be dated, but don’t expect dusty doilies at Hounds Tooth. The property is thoroughly au courant—from the Tesla charging stations down to the tapas, wine and cheese hour each night. Rooms are adorned in a palette of cool grays; ask for one that’s fitted with a whirlpool and fireplace for an instant cozy factor. We love that an abundant protein-punch breakfast buffet—avocado toast! Waffles adorned with strawberries and whipped cream!—is included in the rate; the best possible way to kick-start a day of adventure, and a must for hanger-prevention.
You're here because
The hotel a 7-minute drive from Bass Lake, where the water reaches a blissful 80 degrees in the heat of summer. (No surprise Sunset Magazine ranked it among the top 10 lakes in the entire state).
You’ve never gone skydiving before, but staffers at the front desk hooked you up with local pros—and you did it. You jumped. The only thing better than finally seeing bucket-list Yosemite? Seeing it like a bald eagle on the wing, from 14,000 feet...and knowing the hotel staff will have a riesling chilling for you upon your return to earth.
