Key Biscayne, Florida
The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne
Island escape from the city
What it is
A luxury, family-friendly resort on an offshore island enclave.
What it isn't
Urban or central. You're a couple of causeways away from the mainland.
What we think
On 12 gated, oceanfront acres, the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne has the feel of an island resort, but it’s only a 15-minute drive to downtown Miami. Located on an affluent barrier island known for its beaches-and-boating lifestyle, the hotel has 450 rooms and 37 suites inside a winged 13-story tower. The typical Ritz-Carlton traditionalism is curtailed in favor of a more relaxed, contemporary looks, with sandy color tones, subtle patterns and floor-to-ceiling windows that let in the vast expanse of blue outside. Downstairs, there are three restaurants (Cioppino is a standout for its Italian cuisine and superb brunch) as well as a red-walled, wood-ceilinged rum bar in the lobby that evokes 1940s-era Havana. Tennis is a focus here—the 11-court club is overseen by Hall of Famer Cliff Drysdale—and the oceanfront spa and fitness center are both well equipped. The par-72 Crandon Park Golf Course is only a five-minute drive away. Families love it here, for the kids' club, the freeform pool surrounded by royal palms (there's a second pool for adults only) and the beautiful if slightly narrow beach.
You're here because
You want a full sun-and-sand resort experience—but with the convenience of being a quick car ride away from Miami and the airport.
As your driver passes through the grand gates of the Ritz-Carlton complex, you lower the window and feel the warm Miami breeze stream into the car. You look at the palace in front of you, hundreds of windows glowing amber, rustling palm fronds lit from below and a fountain in the center of it all.
