Midtown Atlanta, Georgia
W Atlanta - Midtown
Gateway to ATL
What it is
A sleek tower with humming bars, modernist spa and a sceney rooftop pool flanked by private cabanas.
What it isn't
Kid-focused. Thrills here are decidedly grown-up, by design (note the waiters delivering cocktails and fluffy towels to DJ beats at WET, the alfresco pool).
What we think
You know a hotel is cool when city locals flock there for drinks, dinner and more drinks, in that order. W Atlanta-Midtown fits the bill. You’ll spot both exceedingly hip and well-heeled Atlantans at Trace, their modern Southern restaurant, and Rise, a coffee shop (with roasted beans by Umbria) that looks like it could have been shipped over from Italy. Designed by New York City-based Virserius Studio, rooms are fitted with modern Southern Comforts: Bluetooth speakers, Instagrammy artwork, plush bedding and a mini “Munchi and Mix” bar that’s primed for a midnight robe-wearing raid. If you want to #treatyoself to something extraordinary, upgrade to the Extreme Wow Suite; the 1,600-square-foot space is fitted with a hanging kelly green divan and a deep soaking tub that fills from the ceiling.
You're here because
You have a thing for W spas, and this one offers a glow peel that will take years off your face.
Kicking up your heels is easier, you’ve found, from your perch on a serpentine green velvet banquette at Forbidden Garden, a tucked-away corner of W’s Living Room restaurant. It’s Glitzy with a capital G, meant to summon age-old garden parties from decades past. You take a sip of your Mad Hatter cocktail, made with Patron, Grand Marnier, lime, agave, charcoal and (wait for it) edible glitter, and smile. This is living.
Midtown Atlanta, a two-block walk from Piedmont Park and the 30-acre Atlanta Botanical Garden, where you’ll see a 25-foot Earth Goddess sculpture made entirely of annual plants.
