St. Barths

Eden Rock - St Barths

An Oetker Collection Hotel

What it is

Exclusive, yet laid back, it’s a luxe hideout in the center of St. Barths.

What it isn't

It doesn’t follow the sand-colored or gauzy white theme of island digs, this place pops with cherry red personality.

What we think

The complex of 34 bright red-roofed bungalows spills from the hill onto the beach and then over the quartzite outcrop that divides St. Jean’s beach. Formerly the lavish estate of the island’s first mayor, the property became a hotel in 1995 - every year since, it’s ranked as one of the top properties in the Caribbean - both for its superlative location and its cheerily attentive service. Each accommodation, from split-level beach cabins to garden suites to the over the top villas perched atop The Rock, is individually styled - they range from eclectic bohemian bungalows, rooms that could pass as sleekly modern L.A. digs, to are charming whitewashed seaside cottages. Every one of them has incredible views of the powder white sand and the clear Caribbean water. Poised on the outcrop overlooking the coral reef, On The Rocks is the dinner-only French affair that’s elegant and exclusive; down at the beach, the Sand Bar is the hotel’s casual barefoot chic alternative. Unlike a lot of the island’s properties, children are welcomed here, with babysitting available and special accommodations in select suites.

You're here because

The perched location has some of the best views on the island. David Rockefeller, Howard Hughes, Brigitte Bardot, and Greta Garbo all frequented the place. Two of the best restaurants on the island are here. Bottom line: you’re looking for an incredible beach, beautiful vistas, elevated food, but you also want something with personality.

The Moment

Walking down the steps of the hotel’s property, you stop to take in the sweeping vista before you. The view is all bright solid colors: the cherry red roofs are warm in the sunshine, the water changes from bright turquoise to deep cerulean as it goes out to sea, the beach is a bright white streak as it curves around the cove.

Restaurants & Bars

Sand Bar - The only place on the island to enjoy fantastic whole-wheat crust pizza plus local fish grilled or baked in the wood fired oven for lunch and dinner.

Island - Chic and fine dining, On The Rocks with Jean-Georges is spectacularly set with views over the coral reefs and beyond.

Sand Bar Night & On the Rocks Bar - For simply dinners the Sand Bar Night is the best spot right on the water’s edge where guests are invited to share a special moment with friends and family. The beach lounge area invites clients to chill-out with cocktails and snacks.

On the Rocks - Exquisite cocktails at sunset and an aperitif snack menu will be available from 6pm.
